Celebrate the Tribal Warrior's historic 2 year
circumnavigation of Australia
(30 August 2001 - 9 June 2003)
The Tribal Warrior's historic return to Sydney
marks the first circumnavigation
of Australia by an Aboriginal community vessel,
crewed by Aboriginal mariners.
The boat has been visiting coastal Aboriginal
Communities around Australia.
The 9 June is also 200 years to the day, that
Bungaree & Matthew Flinders sailed into
Sydney Harbour, after their 2 year
circumnavigation of Australia (1801 - 1803).
The Tribal Warrior
Association hopes it is possible to have a
bonfire on North Head to welcome their boat home
as it sails northward to Sydney Heads.
The Maritime Museum
is sending the heritage boat 'James Craig' to
welcome the Tribal Warrior into the harbour. A
flotilla of other boats is also invited.
Everyone is invited
to line the harbour foreshores & wave Aboriginal
Flags.
The Aboriginal Flag
is currently flying on top of the Harbour Bridge
for
Reconciliation Week (hopefully it will soon fly
there permanently) so it
would be good to have it flying there on the 9
June 2003.
