THE LANE COVE CAMERAYGAL FESTIVAL EVERYONE
WELCOME

August to Sunday 12 October 2003
The Cameraygal Festival is named after the Traditional Owners of the Lower
North Shore Cameraygal is sponsored by Lane Cove Council and is the annual
festival of the Municipality of Lane Cove, which includes Lane Cove West,
Linley Point, Lane Cove, Riverview, Longueville, Northwood, Greenwich and
parts of Gore Hill and St Leonards.
All local community groups are
invited to contribute events.
EVENTS WHICH INCLUDE AN ABORIGINAL
PERSPECTIVE:-
1) Sat 9 August Official Opening:
11am:
* Welcome To Country - Robert Welsh, Chairperson, Metropolitan Local
Aboriginal Land Council
* Les Saxby & the Yidaki Dancers - didge, Aboriginal dance & storytelling.
* Festival Launch - Clr John May, Mayor of Lane Cove.

2) Sat 23 August: 'Garraway (White Cockatoo) Walk'
10am - 11.30am:
Meet at College Rd North, off Bridge St, Lane Cove
Walking with Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal guides, from Tennyson Park to
Linley Point on the Lane Cove River, where the 'Garraway Lookout' sign will be
unveiled.

3) Tues 2 Sept: Lane Cove Residents for Reconciliation:
Public Meeting - All
Welcome
7.00 for 7.30pm - 9.30pm: " Australians All ... Reflections on Reconciliation"
An evening of cultural diversity: speakers from diverse Indigenous cultures
and from diverse non-Indigenous cultures will share their thoughts on
Reconciliation.
Venue: 'Lane Cove Community Centre' (Lower Level), 164 Longueville Rd, Lane
Cove (opp. Library).

4) Sat 13 Sept: Stringybark Creek Heritage Walk
9.30am - 11.30am: Meet at end of Karilla Ave, Lane Cove
Walking with Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal guides through the bushland
reserves of Stringybark Creek (tributary of the Lane Cove River) and discover
the history and local stories of the area.

5) Sat 27 Sept: 'Mana Badangai' Aboriginal Heritage Walk
10am - 12noon: Meet at Blackman Park picnic area, end of Lloyd Rees Drive,
Lane Cove.
Walking with Aboriginal guide John Lennis, learn about Aboriginal culture and
hear stories of the Cameraygal people who lived along the Lane Cove River for
thousands of years.

6) Wed 1 Oct: Aboriginal Storytelling: Animals of the Dreaming
10.30am - 11.30am: Lane Cove Children's Library, 139a Longueville Rd, Lane
Cove
Listen to stories and songs about animals of the Dreaming told by Aboriginal
Elder, Col Hardy. Taronga Zoomobile will be bringing native animals to see and
touch.
Cost: Free, suitable for children 5 years and older. Lane Cove Library Ph 9911

7) Fri 3 Oct: Lane Cove Residents for Reconciliation: All Welcome.
7.30pm: " Koncert Koori "An evening of contemporary Aboriginal entertainment -
including song and dance, comic mime and stand-up comedy.
Venue:'Lane Cove Music & Cultural Centre', 266 Longueville Rd (near River Rd),
Lane Cove.

8) Sun 12 Oct : Lane Cove Village Fair: 10am - 5pm. (LCRR Reconciliation
Street Stall).
